Residential, commercial & industrial painting on the Central Coast
Residential, commercial and industrial painting and coatings in San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County.
Tinoco Painting is based in Bakersfield, and the Central Coast is the other half of where the work is: San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County, over the Temblor Range on State Route 58 or State Route 166.
Painting near the ocean is a different job from painting in the valley. In Bakersfield the enemies are heat and dust. On the coast they are moisture and salt. The marine layer can leave a wall damp until late morning, and paint applied to a damp surface does not bond properly. It blisters or peels. So coastal exteriors are scheduled around the weather. Coating starts once the surface has dried out, not at a fixed hour.
Shade and fog together grow mildew, mostly on north-facing walls, under eaves and on wood siding. Mildew has to be killed and washed off before painting. Painting over it only hides it until it shows back through the new coat. Wood trim and siding near the coast also take on and lose moisture through the year, so joints are re-caulked and bare wood is primed rather than spot-painted.
Salt air is hard on steel. Railings, gates, metal doors, equipment and structural steel corrode faster near the coast, and rust left under a coating keeps spreading beneath it. That is where the commercial and industrial side of this business comes in: sandblasting or mechanical preparation down to sound metal, and then a coating system chosen for the exposure, not a single coat of house paint.
The work on the Central Coast is the same as in Kern County: homes, cabinets, commercial buildings, agricultural and industrial facilities, tanks and equipment. It is a longer drive from Bakersfield, so call or text first and describe the job. We will talk through the scope and scheduling before anyone sets a date.

Ray was great to work with very attentive and his response time was perfect. He did a fantastic paint job on my garage doors at a very reasonable price for the quality he provides. Would definitely recommend and will be using him again myself for any other painting project we might have.
Ray’s team did a great job on my house. They were all very friendly and let us know when they were going to arrive each day and kept the place clean as they worked. It’s nice to have a good crew when the job spans several days. The paint job was 5 stars with a good primer base and they got all the high points of the house and even painted the metal chimneys on the roof. I would definitely recommend them. I got exactly what I wanted, and the house looks great now. They did sanding, scraped all old paint where needed and caulked the windows before the job which nobody else said they would do. Thanks Ray, it was nice working with you!
Ray’s team did a great job on my garage doors. They had to cover a darker color that had become chalky, and used a superior product meant to withstand the sun on our west-facing doors. They were patient with me when I was unsure of which sheen I should use, and I’m very happy with the results! The new color matches the color of my home, which was also a concern of mine.
